TNN: True & Neutral News - "GOBLINS STRIKE TOWN IN EMBARRASSING, BUT CONCERNING, ATTACK"

Risen villagers emerged from their homes today to the sounds of explosions near the temple, the result of infiltration by a pair of ambitious, though not-very-subtle, goblin saboteurs. The Scar-born goblins appeared to have snuck into the village through duplicity, disguising themselves under a set of thick robes and a concealing helmet. Attentive Risen might notice that this is the second time that goblins from nearby Scars have attempted to infiltrate the village, the last being during one of Markus Grillsson’s fight nights.

A goblin does not present much of a threat to your average Scar-hunter, but that’s hardly the case for normal Risen townsfolk - to say nothing of the scrap-made explosives that were concealed in various places, some of which were set off before their discovery. Thankfully, no one was killed - Reeve Olenka was slightly scratched up, quickly healed by nearby Risen Nelia. Obviously we can’t always count on that to happen, and it’s also obvious that the goblins are poising themselves to be a continued issue for Risenholm with these attempts at sabotage - Scar-born or no, they appear to see Risenholm as a threat to their non-existence, or at least a future conquest.

Together with the bullywug threat continuing to loom, and escalate in various ways itself, you’d be forgiven for being worried about the security of the village. A Dredger allowed the goblins (disguised) in at Fight Night, and the goblins today must have surely passed a Reeve at a gate. If the enemy is bringing dangerous explosives into our home, we all have little choice but to start being much more discerning about who we allow into the village. Speaking as a Dredger, I can assure readers that we’re taking security in the caves quite seriously now. After speaking to Reeve Allena, who was present for most of what happened today, I’m reasonably confident that our militia will do the same.

Speaking for herself, Allena commented that the Reeves should, “get some sort of better watch at our gates, or simply ban worn helmets within the village walls… there’s also a decent few ways for goblins to get into the town… the wall isn’t very big.”

Of course, it’s not just the goblins who are a threat right now. Practically every day Scar-hunters report being ambushed by bullywugs from Greywater Lake. I don’t think it’s unwarranted to say it’s high time for Risenholm to start improving its defenses. A watchtower might not go amiss. Reeves patrol near the river, but we’ve got more than frogs to worry about now when the enemy can turn up within our walls.

Wouldn’t be doing my due diligence if I didn’t end on the note that if you see something weird, tell a Reeve or someone you trust. Don’t let it go - it could, sadly, embarrassingly, be a pair of goblins planting improvised explosives.

Next article, I hope to have comments from the various town leaders regarding recent threats, and how Risenholm should be reacting to them. Keep on reading, folks, and don’t find yourself climbing up.
