The first known instance of a fully aware, seemingly normal person being retrieved from a Scar was accomplished several days ago following the brief emergence of a new Scar. A team of Scar-Hunting Surgers, at the direction of Scar-Researcher Fitz Bazalgate of the Millers, was directed to the Scarred object, a barricade that had appeared close to town along the Greywater River, following its discovery. At the time of entry, no Scar-born had emerged from within yet, and quick action by the team of hunters resulted in the Scar’s dissolution before it could threaten Risenholm. Normally a cause for due celebration, the Scar’s disappearance was overshadowed by the unprecedented ‘rescue’ of a sentient person who had, by all indications, been part of the Scar’s narrative.

The man, Eadred Iron-Tooth, a person who lived in pre-Imperial times in this region, seems by all indications to be of sound mind, aware of his surroundings, and cognizant of the fact that he was within the Scar’s repeating narrative for quite some time prior to his emergence. Though his awareness was hazy at first, early signs indicated to the Hunters that he was more perceptive than usual, citing that he was exhausted and dimly knowledgeable that this was something he had done many times before. The Risen within leapt on this opportunity, pointing out his circumstances from time to time - though the echoes of people within sought to keep him focused on the Scar’s narrative, a seed of doubt had evidently been planted, one reaped once the Scar had been successfully neutralized and began to unravel. As the Scar’s world fell apart, Eadred was convinced by the Surgers to attempt to exit the Scar along with them.

Needless to say, the team was elated to discover that not only had he succeeded to do so, but was seemingly free of all indications of being a typical Scar-born creature. The Millers and Doctor Fabella Tarsus have been hard at work acclimating him to life in Risenholm, as well as ensuring that his presence in the village continues to be without incident. To say that this is an unprecedented event would be an understatement - it’s not currently known whether the man is kith in the same way all Risen are, but he seems by all accounts to be adjusting well to the reality he finds himself in. Not many could have made such a transition.

All right, dropping the neutral-sounding news speak now. Obviously this is a pretty fucking huge deal - having been there in the Scar when we boosted the guy, I can’t begin to describe how miraculous it all felt. Assuming we can even replicate this feat again, it might be a genuine way to discover more and more about the history of the world we’re in. Unless the guy’s lost his memory at some point, which I don’t think he has, we stand to learn a whole hell of a lot. The guy’s been through a lot, obviously - we ain’t sure whether he was just some guy who got caught in the Scar and stuck in its narrative loop, or if he’s seriously a part of the Scar that became self-aware and somehow able to leave and become a real person. Who the fuck knows. History’s getting made, either way.

So treat the fellow with some respect if you see him. Let it not be said we don’t give warm welcomes to people who’ve been through some shit.
