OOC discussions about the game

I learned a lot of hard lessons on my first character, especially in regards to builds, so I wanted to share some of it.

1. The First Three Levels are Critical
Especially level 1. Part of this server's dynamic is frequent re-levelling, and that offers an opportunity to try out new things. Make sure when you're deciding what your first three feats will be, they'll be something you'll always want to use no matter what.

2. Spread Your Scores.
Every ability score provides something meaningful, and because of this, min-maxing can result in hsmstringing yourself in major aspects. Having a perfectly high score can be eschewed because...

3. Martial Acuity and Strategic Defense are your friend.
These feats help you make the numbers turn out in your favor. Because the server has a max ability score bonus of +10 and that requires starting with an 18, raising it to 20, and pumping both level-up ability points into it, as well as acquiring or making rare gear with ability score increases, trying to max out your ac for light armors or your ab for melee is very costly. Martial acuity and strategic defense let you contribute mental scores to these, meaning you can invest those ability points elsewhere to improve saves, maneuvers, health, or metamagic.

4. Consider holding off on restrictive choices.
The fighting styles are great, but taking them before 6 means you're locked in and can't experiment with other combinations easily. If you play a class with bonus fighting styles it's more reasonable to have multiple.

5. Use your Insight.
As you kill creatures in-game you get information about their combat stats, resistances, and weaknesses. Exploit them. Bring weapon oils and runes for their elemental weakness to maximize the hurt.

6. Manage Your Stability and Resources
Your Well-water item can be used to recover half your stability and class resources in addition to its camp function. If you need a pick-me-up before a big fight to get some short duration buffs or healing capacity, don't be afraid to use it.

7. Craft in the Field
The Crafting Skills button on the radial menu lets you make gadgets, healing kits, and ammo anywhere you want. Use it if you need more.

8. Use Gadgets
Gadgets are cheap to make and can swing fights, especially the Deceitful Decoy. Position them well, though, because unless you have the Selective Gadgets feat, they can affect you and your party too.

9. Choose Appropriate Difficulty
Not every Scar needs to be Reckless. If you have newer or undergeared party members, lowering the difficulty increases the chances of success. You won't get as much xp, but you don't get the completion bonus (and actually get a debt) if everyone dies.

10. Carry resurrection items.
Anyone can use Raise Dead scrolls or Revival Serum (crafted from Crafting Skills) to raise a dead party member. If they die in a scar and no one has one, you can't leave and come back to resurrect them. They also take 5 stability so make sure you're well-drunk first!
